Can the Guru Mantra Ease your Suffering and Change your Life?
The path of the Guru is sacred. From his deep understanding of the Vedas, Swami Ram Charan of the Hindu Learning Center and Jyotish Ashram has revived this path to help you rejuvenate yourself through the sacred Mantra. With the knowledge imparted to you by Swami-ji and the pursuit of your own effort and practice, you will be able to ease your suffering and build a life of good health, happiness and prosperity.
People from all walks of life come to the Ashram
to find relief from their pain and suffering. Often times they say that
they feel disconnected from life; that something is missing from their
lives; that their focus and drive to achieve has diminished; that there
is no real grounding in their lives. What they are saying is that they
want to feel 'plugged in' again. They want to feel a sense of connection.
This is all about 'meaning' in people's lives. Out of this sense of meaning,
comes a sense of purpose and usefulness - a sense of belonging to something
larger than the Self. But how does someone become connected? How do they
begin to enjoy the happiness of a blissful life? How do they become free
from the yoke of their miseries? The answer lies in the simplicity
and understanding of the Guru Mantra:
Gurubrahma guruvisnur // gurudevo maheshvarah
Gurureva parabrahma // tasmai srigurave namah
The syllable 'gu' means the darkness of ignorance
and the syllable 'ru' represents the light of knowledge. The spiritual
teacher or guru is symbolized as our creator, our preserver and the destroyer
in the Guru Mantra above.
A guru enables a suffering person to take
control of his or her own live and transform it to a life of happiness
and prosperity. One of the ways that this can be done is through a specific
Mantra given by the Guru. A mantra is really sound. Through our knowledge
of the physical sciences, we know that sound causes vibrations to take
place. Constant repetition of the Mantra causes vibration to take place
in the individual cells and organs within the human body. Over time, the
mantra causes noticeable changes to take place. Suffering ceases and the
person develops a renewed outlook about life, and start to feel connected
again as more and more positive events begin to happen in life. But
what is the right Mantra for you?
A mantra from a book is simply written words on a page. Through the Science of the Vedic scriptures, the Guru will first bring the mantra to life and give it force. He will then instruct you on its use. He will tell you how and when to repeat it. Repetition does not take anything away from your every-day life. You may repeat it aloud or you may repeat it silently. You can repeat it while showering, while traveling to work, while working, while cooking, while performing chores, while preparing for sleep. It becomes like a tune of your favorite song. You begin to enjoy it. And the more you repeat it, the more you will notice pleasant changes in your life. You begin to look back on your life of suffering and misery and wonder where it went. You will find that you become revitalized. Your new life will be filled with happiness and joy. You will begin to feel connected with your family again; you will begin to feel connected with your temple and your community; you will even enjoy your work better because you will begin to see people in a more positive light. Through this one small act on your part, you will be able to leave behind a life of suffering and misery and build one of joy and prosperity.
Swami Ram Charan un-shrouds the mystery of the Vedic teachings and helps us to understand it in scientific and practical ways. He understood the sense of dis-connection that people were feeling when they came to him for help. But more importantly, he knew what to do in order to help them to become re-connected once again. To explain the workings and effectiveness of the Mantra, Swami-ji tells us that our human body is really a combination of four sheaths - sort of like the sheaths of an onion that encases the core at its center. The four sheaths are:
1. Physical body - this is
the body that we see in our state of physical awareness.
2. Astral body - this is
the one that exist in the dream state.
3. Causal body - this is
the one that exist in the state of deep sleep.
4. Supra causal body - this
is the one that exist in the form of pure light.
The sound vibrations of the Mantra slowly penetrate
the body sheaths and continued repetition with firm determination, dedication
and devotion, cause the vibrations to eventually reach the very source
of our 'I-ness' or our Inner-Self. At this core, our being exist in the
form of pure light and the light of our individual being merges with the
universal light or Cosmic Consciousness to give us a sense of completeness
and wholesomeness. Once this connection of the light from our innermost
sheath is made with the universal light of the Cosmic Consciousness, we
become 'plugged-in' again and our suffering dissipates and our happiness
begins. All this is happening at a very deep level and we are not even
aware of it. The only thing that we become aware of is that our outlook
or 'view' of life changes. We become aware that more and more happy events
take place and that the sorrowful ones that had
pestered our lives for so long become lesser
and lesser. At the ultimate point when the mantra vibrations cause our
inner light to connect with the universal light, we become very grounded
and like a baby, we see joys in places that others are not able to discern.
Swami Ram Charan can help you experience this joyous state of living and
of life.
Quiz.
It is said that in the beginning there was
only Space. Then came Light. And in this Lighted Space, there was a small
Vibration that caused wave-like Movement to take place. And then this movement
took place in a certain Direction. It is also said that the Hindu Gods
are the representation of physical aspects in the universe. (a):
