VRAT,FESTIVAL OR HOLIDAY FEAST PUJA FOR LORD SHIVA

SHIVRAATRI(Offically starts February 28 at 4pm and ends 4pm March 1)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SHIVARATRI FESTIVAL PUJA

A devotee observing Mahaa-Shiva-Raatri, must perform puja (offerings) to Lord Shiva, four times in four praharas (three hours divisions) for the whole day starting from Sunrise that day to Sunrise the next day. The Prahara's times are as follows, (depending on sunrise, all hours are approximate).

DAY TIME

Sunrise - 9 AM    - 1ST Prahara
9 AM    - 12 NOON - 2nd Prahara
12 NOON - 3 PM    - 3rd Prahara
3 PM    - Sunset - 4TH Prahara

NIGHT TIME

Sunset      - 9 PM        - 1ST Prahara
9 PM        - 12 MIDNIGHT - 2nd Prahara
12 MIDNIGHT - 3 AM        - 3rd Prahara
3 AM        - Sunrise     - 4TH Prahara

The shivlingam is placed in on a paan leaf in a container (tari) large enough to accommodate the items which will be put on the shivlingam. The point of the paan leaf and the shivlingam should face north.

With a FRUIT AND FLOWERS in the palm of your hands, Lord Shiva is invited to appear spiritually and accept the offerings of devotion, by reciting this mantra (prayer). This is done each Prahara

Place the following items on the Shivalingam,and each time an item is placed on the Shivalingam,the mantra below should be recited:
NOTE: YOU MUST USE THE SAME ITEM TO START WITH EACH TIME (EACH PRAHARA)

Milk (milk is used for wealth)
Coconut water (used to think of each other- consciousness)
Cane juice (used for attention)
Honey (used for sweet speech)
Yogurt (to experience bliss in love life)
Haldee(dye)(used for peace-of-mind)
Sarsoon (Mustard seed)(used to get rid of enemies)
Lawang(Clove)(nine, with the head for protection in marriage)
Bael Leaf(for family togetherness,erases the sins of marriage).
Attar(for proper direction)
YagYo Kachha Soot (used for protection)
Chandan Sandalwood Powder (for knowledge)(white is best)
Saindoor (for prosperity)

Om Shiva raatri vratam,
Shiva pujaa jaapa paraayana;
Nagendra haraya trilochanaya bhasmangaragaya maheshvaraya;
Nityaya suddhaya digambaraya tasmay "Na" karaya namah sivaya;
Mandakini salila chandana charchitaya nandisvara pramatha
natha mahesvaraya; mandara pushpa bahupushpa supujitaya tasmai "Ma" karaya namah sivaya.

Sivaya Gauri Vadanab Javrinda Suryaya Daksha Dhvarna Sakaya;
Sri nilakanthaya vrishadhvajaya tasmai "Si" karaya namah sivaya;
Vasishtha kumbhod bhava gautamarya munindra devarchita sekharaya;
Chandrarkavaisvanara lochanaya tasmai "Va" karaya namah sivaya.

Yakshasvarupaya jatadharaya pinaka hastaya sanatanaya;
Divyaya devaya digambaraya tasmai "Ya" karaya namah sivaya;
Panchaksharamidang punyang yah pathecchhava sannidhau;
Siva lokama vapnoti sivena saha modate;
Pahi mang, siva hare vijayang kuru me varam.
Om Namah Shivaaya

This should be done each Prahara (each auspicious hour). Mantras when recited during shivratri night, have 1000 times effect, and all wishes come true. It is best to play bhajans of Shiva all day in the home. You should sing the following bhajan after the shivling worship.

FOR BEST RESULT IN WORSHIPING LORD SHIVA THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED:

Make a pledge to give up all red meat which includes: beef, pork, goat, deer, duck etc.
Always wear something silver, pearl, diamond, quartz or topaz.
Avoid black colored clothes. Even spots of black on clothing is not good for prosperity, financial success and happy love life.
Avoid jewelry containing black or red stones or stones that are impure in nature.
Always sleep in an east-west position. North-south position should be avoided,because the earth's magnetic field is north-south.
Before going to sleep chant the mantra "KALI DURGE NAMO NAMA".

KALI means to destroy all negative energies: DURGE means to fill

life with positive energies: NAMO NAMAmeans for the benefit of all the family.

Avoid using dairy products such as milk, cheese, yogurt etc. during the night between sunset and sunsrise. Because milk belongs to light (Laxmi) and night is detrimental for financial success.
Maintain an alter or place of worship in an eastern corner of your home. Every morning, light an incense and sprinkle water in each direction. The alter acts as a spiritual doorway through which positive energies enters your home.
Donate to charity.

SPECIAL NOTE:

In ancient Hindu Science, a MALE priest or Spiritual Master was only allowed to touch a FEMALE hands, head or feet to cure them of any problem. However,if he has to cure a female by touching any other areas of the body, the husband, boyfriend, mother or someone else should be present. This is still the custom.

The ancient cures were mainly:
AYURVEDIC, MANTRAS, TANTRAS or YOGIC METHODS.

HOW TO DO A DAILY WORSHIP TO LORD SHIVA FOR A HAPPY LOVE LIFE

You must obtain a SHIVA-LINGAM, a Murti or Picture of Mother DURGA, and a picture or murti of SHIVA. These must be placed at the Altar or place of worship. The SHIVA-LINGAM should be in a container to catch the dar (mixture) that will be poured on the Shivalingam, and it should not be covered by a deep container. The shivlingam should be placed between the murti of Lord Shiva and Mother Durga. Perform the proper mantras and ritual found in the puja book. Then pour the dar (mixture)seven items: milk, cane juice, coconut water, yogurt, honey haldee (dye)and mustard seed, on the shivling reciting the following mantra 27 times while pouring the dar.

Prasad should have been prepared prior to the commencement of the puja. Now take the prasad and touch the prasad to the mouth of Mother Durga, the Shiva-ling and the mouth of Lord Shiva(three times each) reciting the following mantra.

Om Haring Kumar Aye Nama Swaha
Om Haring Mohini Swaha

You may partake of this food (prasad).

The dar mixture in the container can be used for Religious baths and Healing purposes.
